[ My whole translation of all the important stuff (like 99% of it) from the preview ]

- Niko arrives quite tired after the long ride with the container ship called Platypus in L.C.
- its is mentioned how much attention R* pays for the whole mood of atmosphere, like when Nico arrives the first thing he spots is the shimmering water that seems to be full of stars, due to heavy reflection of the sun light....
- Niko got betrayed in his origin country

- For his first job the italian mafia wants him to get rid of a police inside man, although he has no idea about his whereabouts. So he has something up his sleeve: He calls the cops, luring them to a faked and thought-up crime scene, only to enter one empty police car (cops alreay in frenzy mode searching for suspect ^^, leaving cars open behind *lol*) and using the embedded database computer to search for that guy's address, knowing that he is a criminal and might be reported in that database...*fricken sweet*

- Niko finds target hiding at a construction site, wants to take him out with a sniper but finds out that there is another sniper dude watching the target's back...so he takes him out, dude falls form his lookout right onto a car, crashing it's top (roof)
Then Niko enters the construction site and gets surprised by unwanted company...everyones shooting at him like there's no tommorow...Niko tries to hide behind a wooden cover (box), but after some heavy bullet impact it gets destoyed, so he moves on to cover his butt behind a solid metal steal beam....

Niko makes some desperate attempts with firing some salvos from his sub machine gun to suppress the incoming force, then decides to throw a grenade, resulting in the crash of some mounted steel beams that happen to fall onto the bad guys and turn out their lights

- On the way home he gets a cell phone message from his cousin Brucie who wants to have some funny time with him at a night club
- Niko drops by at his house and picks him up...
- 2 hours later they both leave the club in a drunken state: the 20 meter long walk to the car turns out to be the total lauching stock, one falling on the other every time they move on walking... [with vision blurred and distorted, being out of balance... - (my assumptions

- in the car, it doesn't get any better ^^ : blurred vision and dizziness affect negatively the driving style...
- he manages to drop Brucie off at his house and then after drives on (for some reason his mind is suddenly all clear again...)
- as the car is a total wreck after that drunken ride, he decides to switch to another one, breaking in by smashing the window...
- Unfortunately the cops witness this act and are right after him...

- he drives up the bridge that connects all four parts (districts) of Liberty City (while doing so the previewer mentions who awesome the light reflections are being displayed on the glass front of some tower buildings, averall the game has a very athmospheric lightning scheme)

- on a lively crossing the cops manage to stop his ride, leaving him no choice but to leave the car and move on on his feets
- he runs down the road, scarying the $hiT out of nearby pedestrians (who really react disturbed on him, letting their bags fall onto the ground and such reactions..., in all their fear)...with a freaking rocket launcher resting on his shoulder
- Out of a sudden a police biker cuts off his escape route...

- Niko makes some steps back in preperation for firing the RPG...rocket sets off, closely missing the motocyle (in all action movie style the rocket happens to fly through right between the wheels of the bike), ultimately hitting the incoming SWAT van, turning it into a fireball of wrecked metal that heads right into the unlucky biker... (biker = owned!)

- Niko manages to escape the incoming inferno with a well timed rescue jump, but then he has no chance against the firepower of the police force and ends up in a hospital, being wounded...
- deprived of all his weapons he leaves the hospital on the other day, physically recovered

Well, that's all what happens in the demo that was previewd by a R*-rep guy to the german games mag.

[ Then there is the talk of the game as a whole ]

- all the city is full of live
- Niko body wheight is correctly simulated, making it almost a pain to watch him falling off a bike or getting hit by a car...
- control of him, cars and boats is of known quality (what previous titles have delivered):

- one needs a button input to enter a car and another one to turn on the engine (gives you the feeling as if you are actually turning the key to start the engine)
- No planes available, but a lot of various boars, choppers...

- i s a taxi cab nearby, one only needs to blow a whistle to get into one, spectating the city through the side windows from inside the car on the rear seat as it drives you to your destination of choice (awesome gameplay decision: Now you finally have the time to admire the whole living city in relax mode)

- some cars have to get broken into to get valuable stuff out of it
- cars can be hijacked when moving on (would be a shame if not, actually)

- Niko is able to reach his contacts via his cell phone and it is crucial to keep connections alive cause only thereby you can enjoy some special benefits/comforts off it:
For example, after meeting Brucie several times to go bowling with him, he offers you the opportunity of using his "chopper-taxi" for free

- As the cell phone features a radio, you can actually hear music all along the game, during shootouts, hot pursuits etc...

(i guess that's how the custom music track feature will get implemented into the game, without the need of going into the game menue and interrupting your gaming plesure, i guess, you choose the music of choice before hand in the options, making a custom sound track list, and then after you just have to switch between the sonds ingame with a dedicated button when using the cell phone, to guarantee a fluid gameplay without any unwanted options menue mess-around)

- Holy Crap: Accoring to the magazine, it was the very first one to get their hands on the game, not only spectating the game as it gets presented by a R* rep! (i wonder if R* likes to treat this one german mag better than all the other oners that had a look on GTA4 before but coudn't play it by themself or because the GTA4 build, used for that preview, has reached a state of production where the devs had no fears to pass it over to the press dudes...)

[ Their overall impression ]

- GAME ROCKS!
- Niko happens to be a symphatic character (in contrast to what many people expected him to be)
- fine and intelligent humour throughout the game
- paired with a bombastic look and a very sophisticated physics engine (Euphoria FTW, i guess)
- awesome fire and smoke effects
- GTA4 has the potential to become the best GTA iteration ever created!

Note at the pic with the guy looking around the corner, watching Niko and assisting him as backup option while he is processing a deal (guess this captured moment is part of a ingame movie sequence, introducing the following ingame action...)

[ Interview info ]

- How many times have the games of the GTA franchise sold so far?

64 mil. times and the end is still not reached

- The whole appearance of the game has a more darker look to it, compared to previos iterations. Will it reflect within the course of gameplay, as the game moves on...?

We wanted to make a darker and more believable/realistic world than it has been ever created before, with a more griddy tone...

- GTA4 is based on the RAGE-Engine, used for the first time with TableTennis. What knowledge did you gain from that project and what lessons could you learn from it regarding GTA4 development?

We have learned alot from the development of TableTennis. Mostly, the animation managent and handling has benefited from the knowledge we gathered from the TableTennis project. Cause the engine being an internally one, we could adjust it to our needs as we wished.

- Why did you go for an east european character as the main protagonist?

We always wanted to create a character that you are associated with. With GTA4 we wanted to narrate the story of an immigrant who is searching for his luck on the east side of the USA.
